Mourning and grieving in different cultures – Liese Groot-Alberts (New Zealand)

But through this life-changing experience came her passion for working with healthcare professionals and volunteers. Over a period of several years since 1988, she worked for Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross as a workshop leader and staff member conducting workshops in New Zealand, Australia, USA, and Europe.
After Dr. Kübler-Ross’ retirement, Liese continued to develop her own workshops and seminars and conducts trainings in: trauma, loss, grief and bereavement, palliative care, as well as self-care for the carer, resilience, spirituality, mentoring and working with difference, finding strength and hope in connectedness. She’s conducted lectures, workshops, and seminars in the USA, Europe, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, India, Singapore, Samoa, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand. In her presentations and workshops Liese uses images, poetry, humor, and music as well as sound theoretical underpinning of the material presented.

Dr. Lincoln is board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and hospice/palliative care and has been the TMC Hospice medical director since its inception in 1991.
Dr. Lincoln had no idea how a near-forgotten childhood event had impacted his adult relationships and busy medical career. His life underwent dramatic changes as he gradually discovered that injured or neglected children often take revenge on the least dangerous person in their universe: themselves. And as a result, they banish the most vulnerable, frightened, and tender parts of themselves so that they are not hurt again.
In his book, Reclaiming Banished Voices, he fills the pages with stories and teachings that illustrate the consequences of this sabotage to our personal lives, our relationships, and society. With intellectual clarity and emotional poignancy, he also offers a technique to reclaim our full selves and live a connected and fulfilling life.
Drawing on his years of leading workshops with Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, as well as his vast experience as an infectious disease and hospice clinician, Dr. Lincoln provides multiple examples of the transformative power of compassion and love.
